The Travels of Marco Polo
Genoa, 1298. The writer Rustichello da Pisa shared a cell with a Venetian captain who told of a thousand and one fairy-tale lands. As a writer, Rustichello could not remain indifferent to fragments of his new friend’s extraordinary tales. He managed to persuade him to tell the story of his life. And that’s how Marco Polo, returning after 25 years of traveling, began to talk about his adventures. From his prison in Genoa, the Venetian explorer recalls his travels: Venice, Acre, Jerusalem, Armenia, the Himalayas, up to the palace of the great Kublai Khan.
