Preserving the totalitarian atmosphere of the original game, the Beholder DLC: Blissful Sleep takes players back in time to tell the story of what happened in Krushvice 6 before the Ministry of Introductions appointed Carl as the snitch. You may remember how Hector, the previous steward, was beaten and taken, but things aren’t always what they seem…
The expansion introduces some deeper, more complicated character lives and shocking plot twists, all of which take place in the same apartment building as the original story. The country’s laws are as oppressive as ever, disrupting people’s lives and leaving them depressed and seeking salvation. The player continues to operate under strict authoritarian rule, making moral choices that will lead them to one of several endings to the story.
Inspired by George Orwell’s seminal novel, 1984, Beholder’s philosophical narrative explores issues of social and moral values. If you are given the power to destroy privacy, will you follow the orders of your superiors? Or will you treat those you are supposed to spy on as they deserve? Accordingly, who should decide what others deserve? What if two different people deserve to be saved, but one has to disappear? Who will you choose?
