Professor Samuel Hunt, a historian at the British Museum, travels to far-flung corners of the world in search of mystical games of old, cherished by the last families who could master them. His current destination is the historic city of Toledo, Spain, known for its traditional sword making.
Upon arriving, he discovers that the daughter of a sick old friend is in desperate need of help. She is in love with a young blacksmith who was convicted innocently of stealing a precious sword.
