Afghanistan ’11 is the sequel to the acclaimed and innovative Vietnam ’65. It uses and expands on the same gameplay idea: Afghanistan ’11 changes the model of the war game, strives to bring the fight against revolts and guerrillas to your computer screen in a realistic way, thanks to a revolutionary gameplay formula!

It’s 2011 and you’re in charge of U.S. Army operations in Afghanistan. But unlike previous generations of army officers in your family, killing your opponents is just a side goal.

You must devote most of your efforts and resources to other tasks, trying to gain the support of the local population. Ensuring the safety of civilians, persuading villagers to reject the Taliban and isolate the militia leaders.

Suppressing a revolt will have better effects in the long run than conventional tactics, but a simple mistake during an ordinary patrol can worsen your relations with the local population and tarnish your image in the Western press.

The territory of Afghanistan offers very good cover for the insurgents, who can easily hide in the mountains and natural caves. Patience and skillful use of technology can give you a decisive advantage in this ruthless game of hide and seek. When you spot an enemy unit or opium plantation with your drone, you can call in air or artillery support to eliminate the target immediately: speed will be key!

But air superiority is not enough to win the war against the rebels. Booby-traps, rocket launchers, and ambushes are a common threat to your units and helicopters.

Casualties weaken morale and general support from the U.S. population, so make sure you keep your men safe and adequately supplied, and victory can be yours…
