Close Combat - Gateway to Caen
Close Combat: Gateway to Caen is the latest installment in the award-winning Close Combat series, and the final release of the current game engine. Gateway to Caen focuses on the largest, most powerful British offensive since the Normandy landings in an attempt to break through the German lines west of Caen and cross the Odon River to get the halted strike moving again.
In Close Combat: Gateway to Caen, you can play on a strategic and tactical level, taking on the role of both generals and platoon leaders. You can move or combine your battlegroups at the strategic level and decide the outcome of the battles at the tactical level. You’ll command squads in close quarters, using small weapons, mortars, machine guns, armored cars, and tanks to defeat the enemy. You command artillery and mortar barrage and even air strikes. You will have to get to know the individual soldiers, platoons, battalions, and even the larger brigades and battle groups that make them up.
Players may experience the desperate situation of outnumbered but well-armed Panzergrenadiers, or hopeless offensive missions with fully supported British infantry advancing through the treacherous Odon Valley. Under your command are Churchills, Cromwells, Fireflies, Shermans, Stuart tanks, and many more. Panthers, Tigers, Stugs and Mk. IV tanks will arrive to support the German Panzergrenadiers as they try to hold the front against a concentrated British attack.
The historical scope of Operation Epsom is captured in individual battles, operations, and a grand campaign. Strategic Battlefield features more than two dozen individual battlefields with more than three dozen faithfully recreated German and British battlegroups. The regimental history of the British infantry is reflected in the names of the various battalions. You can field your battalions as they actually fought during the quest for Odon. The game features all-new maps and a number of improved effects.
