Onikira - Demon Killer
Onikira: Demon Killer, developed by Irish indie Digital Furnace Games, is an amazing set of 2D fighting games set in fantastic feudal Japan. As Yamazaki Jiro, a lone samurai, players fight to stop the forces of the Japanese underworld, Yomi, from engulfing the world of the living.
Onikira: Demon Killer combines complex deep combat mechanics typically found in traditional 3D fighting games like Ninja Gaiden or Bayonetta and combines them with classic 2D platforming mechanics. Onikiera’s expressive combat system allows players to engage in any way that suits them best. Some players will prefer to engage enemies directly and with the obliterate buttons, while others will opt for a ranged playstyle rather than heavy melee combat. Try to launch the enemy into the air, jump over the walls to position yourself above them, and then smash them into the ground. Switch your weapon to Naginata and use Naginata Lift and air moves to stay in the air and disintegrate on platforms while pulling enemies towards you to be sent flying. Pull your grappling hook between platforms, chasms, or fiery pits while fending off enemies.
Onikira: Demon Killer boasts seven challenging areas, and players can express themselves with forty incredible moves using four devastating weapons. Each level is full of deadly demons that players must send back to the underworld. Players must also face two mini-bosses and two epic mega bosses. Each level is filled with additional aids from the environment to help the player in combat. Cut support posts from the building and watch it crush your enemies as it falls on them, or use your moves to throw enemies into spikes, pits, or the path of moving deadly objects. Be careful, though, as dropping a building on your own head causes obvious sadness.
Unique High-Level Combat – Onikira mixes elements of the 2D platforming with the combat system to create something unique. Moving platforms, wall jumping, wall running, and grappling are used for fast-paced fights.
Seven Areas – The narrative unfolds across gorgeous hand-painted levels that feature rain-drenched villages, destroyed wealthy cities, mountaintop sites, and an erupting volcano.
Master Unique Weapons – Each weapon – sword, tetsubo, naginata, or arm blades – has a variety of moves to unlock, which can result in massive combo chains when the moves are chained together. Compound chains connect directly into result multipliers.
Combat System – Players are rewarded for their strategic and skill-based combat. The game flows naturally from move to movement, allowing the player to create new combos that were not designed by the developers.
Soul Shop – Souls are the currency of Onikira. Use them to restore or increase your health. At certain points in each level, the player will find rifts in Yomi where benevolent spirits will exchange lives for collected souls.
Challenge Arenas – Players complete combat challenges and improve their score and skills to earn achievements. Arenas are fully integrated with Steam’s online leaderboards.
Specific Enemy Types – Each of the enemies, with their own unique weaknesses, emphasizes a particular fighting style, such as the floating, possessed Mempo mask, which encourages the use of a flight game, or the monstrously twisted high-ranking samurai, where punching and running tactics are the best way to stay alive.
